Students of the Rottenburg University excited after WEINMANN company tour
Detailed insights into modern machine technology, an overview of the business processes and career prospects after graduation – this is what the students of the 2nd semester of Wood Science of the University of Applied Forest Sciences/Rottenburg (Hochschule Rottenburg) experienced on May 13 at the premises of WEINMANN Holzbausystemtechnik GmbH.
As part of the lectures "introduction to manufacturing automation" and "introduction to mechanical engineering", a company tour was organized for about 30 students allowing them an insight into various processes such as manufacturing, service and machine technology.
The visit was organized by the lecturer Dominic Schehrer, course coordinator Hubert Binder and WEINMANN sales manager Wolfgang Horn.
First, the entire company was presented with a factory tour. Specifically, the service area was very impressive for the students. The service division includes on-site service and spare parts delivery, application engineering, a training center and the remote service.
So the students could watch WEINMANN service staff directly accessing customer machines, troubleshooting, gaining valuable time and thus avoiding machine downtimes.
Individual products such as carpentry machines, assembly tables and multifunction bridges were demonstrated and explained live, and the students gratefully took the opportunity to ask questions. They were particularly impressed by the accuracy of the carpentry machines, even at high speeds.
So even complex geometries were manufactured within a surprisingly short time, and a carpenter among the students expressed his enthusiasm as follows "previously, in our workshop, we were far from producing so quickly!”
Apart from precision and high processing speed, the machines for element manufacturing impressed with their high savings potential and the fact that this technology is a valuable investment, even for relatively small carpentries.
Project manager Daniel Fothke, a former student of the Hochschule Rottenburg, provided the visitors a deeper insight into his field of activity and possible career prospects after graduation.
After having worked with WEINMANN in order to finish his bachelor thesis, the company hired him directly after completing his studies, and he now is responsible for the field project management.
