What do you do at HOMAG and how long have you been there?

At HOMAG, I am training to become an industrial buyer and I am also the first chairperson of the youth and trainee representatives. I am now in my second year of training so I have been at HOMAG since September 2018.

Why did you decide to train to become an industrial buyer?

At the age of 15 I decided to attend the commercial technical school at the Eduard-Spranger school in Freudenstadt. During the course of various internships in the area of industrial buying, after my high school diploma in business, I ultimately decided on this training.

From my perspective, the training to become an industrial buyer offers not only the perfect basis for subsequent further education, but also the opportunity to combine theoretical knowledge from the vocational college with the practical and varied experience that you acquire in the various different departments during training at HOMAG.

What did you expect from your training and have your desires been met?

In particular, I hoped that my training would allow me to develop further both personally and technically. From the very beginning, it was very important to me to be supported and challenged by the trainers and teachers in the various departments and to experience this in a comfortable and helpful working environment.

After almost two years of training at HOMAG, I can now say that my expectations have been completely fulfilled. Thanks to regular feedback discussions and my role as the first chairperson of the youth and trainee representatives, I have grown in my personal life and have developed further. The regular change of department also allows the creation of a network within HOMAG and thanks to tasks with responsibility, as a trainee you are constantly receiving further technical education.

Which departments have you got to know so far and what have you particularly enjoyed?

At the beginning of my training, I went through operative and strategic purchasing, followed by five months of marketing. During this time, the preparations for LIGNA 2019 were in full swing so I supported the planning and organization of evening events and got my first insights into planning content for social media.

I spent the end of my first year of training in the personnel department for training, providing support during the job application process. I was responsible for organizing the "Welcome Days" for trainees and vocational students from the class of 2019. I then spent time in various departments in service — from spare parts service to Central Administration.

What I particularly enjoyed during my first two years of training was the organizational activities and topic areas in marketing and HR.

What do you like about the work at HOMAG?

For me, the work at HOMAG is distinguished by a sense of cooperation. As a trainee in particular, it's exciting to get insights into the various areas and thereby experience a variety of everyday work. This excellent training gives you the feeling of being a fully-fledged employee and helps you to understand the complex connections within HOMAG.

If HOMAG were a film, which film would it be?

That's obvious "Monsters Inc."!

That may sound strange at first, but for me, Monsters Inc. reflects many of the values that I have also got to know at HOMAG. One of the main themes of the film is friendship. Not only do the two monsters Sulley and Mike form a really good team within the company, with perfect mastery of their job, they are also good friends. I have struck up many friendships during my training and these extend beyond everyday working life. When colleagues become friends, not only does that make work more enjoyable, it also makes collaboration easier and reinforces the feeling of being a team.

Ultimately, Monsters Inc. is reorganized because with immediate effect, the wellbeing of the sleeping children has to be the top priority. For me, that reflects the approach to customer satisfaction, which is also part of the HOMAG corporate philosophy, with committed employees giving their best every day to make that philosophy successful.
