Perfect edge processing with EDGETEQ

All HOMAG edge banding machines will be displayed at HOLZ-HANDWERK in Hall 10.0 with a new, modern machine design and a new name: EDGETEQ.

Highest edge quality with entry-level solutions

With the EDGETEQ S-200 – Model 1130 FC  edge banding machine, HOMAG presents a smart new solution at an entry-level price point, specially designed for woodworking shops. A joint trimming unit prepares the edge to create an optimal joint; a dual-motor snipping unit performs the perfect cut. The impressive trimming unit can be simply adjusted between radius, chamfer and flush miller modes. The finishing area has three units, which at the HOLZ-HANDWERK trade fair are equipped with a profile scraper with quick-change heads as standard, a glue joint scraper and a buffing unit. In addition, there is a profile trimming unit for the complete processing of workpieces, including corner processing. Three post-processing units in the finishing area, along with a profile trimmer, can be by no means taken for granted in this performance class. This integrated equipment guarantees full flexibility in the post-processing of workpieces.
Alongside the machine's extensive unit equipment, automation of the units is also a possibility. Pneumatic adjustment of the snipping unit and pneumatic adjustment of the scraper are available in the standard version.

High-tech edging: Flexibility3 with integrated workpiece handling

The EDGETEQ S-500 profiLine (previously KAL 370 profiLine) can be fitted with any options, is efficient and can be used with all types of material. The edge banding machine presents new possibilities at the HOLZ-HANDWERK trade fair: Flexibility³.

New: Three ways of edge banding on one machine
For those who need to change their edge-banding process – PU, EVA or airTec zero joint technology – at frequent intervals due to the diversity of their product range, all three edge banding processes can now be performed on a single machine. In addition to the airTec unit, the machine is also equipped with two pre-melting units for PU and EVA. 
This means that inexpensive EVA can be used on numerous body components, while PU can be used where there is a requirement for resistance to temperature or moisture. The airTec zero joint process comes to the fore when appearance is particularly important — for example, when producing front pieces. Automatic switching between processes, without the need for manual intervention, saves both time and money.

New: 3-profile Technology on the EDGETEQ S-500 models
New 3-profile technology is the ideal solution for anyone looking for ways to increase their productivity. It changes quickly and automatically between three profiles and 20° chamfer with high repeat accuracy. The "3-profile technology package" includes a fine-milling unit (MF21) for three radii, 3-profile head for profile trimming unit FK30, and a profile scraper (MN21) for more than three radii. In the standard version, the following radii will be supplied:
R1 = 1.0 mm, R2 = 1.5 mm and R3 = 2 mm.

The EDGETEQ S-500 profiLine features equipment for solid wood and high-gloss processing, as well as for processing parts with hinge holes (nesting package). It works at feed speeds of 16–25 m/min. The fully automatic flow of parts on display at HOLZ-HANDWERK is made possible by return conveyor LOOPTEQ O-600 (previously TFU 521 edition). Networking functionality is provided by the woodFlex cell control system. So that the edge banding machine can process each workpiece correctly, each part is given a digital identity (barcode) beforehand.

Uniform adhesive application system for EVA and PU even in entry-level machines

HOMAG is committed to using consistent glue application technology from entry-level machines up to industrial production. The biggest advantage: Application units can be exchanged simply as the same interfaces are used on all machines from the EDGETEQ S-240 through to the EDGETEQ S-390. This increases flexibility, saves time and frees up the budget, since a separate interchangeable tank is not required for each machine.

At the HOLZ-HANDWERK 2018 trade fair, you can see how the user can easily change application units between the EDGETEQ S-240 and EDGETEQ S-390 machines.

QA65 N glue application system
PU is the preferred adhesive for furniture production to ensure resistance to water and heat. For the processing of PU adhesive, HOMAG presents the uniform adhesive application system QA65 N, with hot melt glue supply from above. The application unit's special coating means that all adhesive types, including PU adhesive, can be processed. This means that there will no longer be any limitations as to which series of machines can process particular adhesives.
In addition, there is a simple cleaning and emptying function, previously only available on higher-specification series.

The profile trimmer also becomes a multi-level unit

The edge banding machine EDGETEQ S-300 – Model 1450 E will make its debut at this year's HOLZ-HANDWERK trade fair. The full range of multi-level units to optimize continuity during production and throughout the whole process will be presented there for the first time.

The multi-level technology is used for fine trimmers, profile trimmers and scrapers. A newly added enhancement is the function for workpiece corner processing. Using a new tool that can be easily enabled during a break in operation, the profile trimmer then becomes a multi-level unit. One of two profiles can now be selected. During fine trimming the customer has the choice between two different radii, or flush trimming. When using the scraper, two different radii are available. As the units are equipped with NC axes, everything can be adjusted at the push of a button.

Edging technology, from small to large – further trade fair models

The EDGETEQ S-240 – Model 1230 AT edge banding machine (previously Ambition 1230 airTec) offers a great deal of automation and a significantly simplified, time-saving setup process – even in the basic version. In addition to glue application with a roller, perfect zero joints can be created with the airTec unit.

The EDGETEQ S-380 profiLine (previously KDF 1660 profiLine) stands out thanks to its combination of perfect joints, simple handling and complete automation.

Whether applying adhesive with a gluing roller, manufacturing zero joints or processing PU adhesives — anything is possible.

PU adhesive is processed with a pre-melting unit which has a melting capacity of 2.5 kg/hour. The 2 kg cartridges to be processed are placed in a melting tank located above the application unit. Using a plunger to apply pressure from above, the melted glue is fed into the application unit. This ensures that a sufficient quantity of adhesive is always supplied. The melting tank can be removed by hand. Changing colors is easy and open PU drums can be stored, for instance, in the XES 200 service station for several days by creating a vacuum.

With a cutter, scraper and profile trimmer, multi-level technology provides reliable post-processing of workpieces.

For economical one-man operation and optimal handling, a LOOPTEQ O-300 (previously TFU 140) return conveyor is connected to the machine.

The EDGETEQ S-390 – Model 1860 E (previously KDF 860 Edition) is the perfect machine for woodworking shops wishing to employ an industrial approach. It features a feed speed of up to 20 m/min, can process edges up to a thickness of 12 mm (even solid wood) and has a belt-type top pressure unit for optimal clamping of workpieces. The full automation of the machine allows for fast, easy adjustment. Thanks to the air cushion table at the machine infeed, it is easy to feed large and heavy workpieces.
The magazine's focus is on processing PU adhesives. This machine has clear advantages for those who want to ensure resistance to water and heat. The PU pre-melting unit has a melting capacity of 6 kg/h, ideally suited for a high feed speed of 20 m/min.
The post-processing units which give the edges a flawless appearance – fine trimmer, profile trimmer and scraper – are all multi-level.

The XES 200 pre-heating station saves the user valuable time. The station is multi-talented, offering three different functionalities. It gives the option of storing glue pots containing e.g. PU adhesive, pre-heating glue pots for processing, or cleaning them for later use.
In addition to the two retaining devices for glue tanks, one of which features temperature control and a glue roller drive unit for use as a pre-heating unit, the XES 200 features two pressure tanks for storing the glue tanks. The station, which is mounted on rollers for portability, can be universally and flexibly attached to different machines as required. 

The EDGETEQ S-500 – Model 2474 (previously Ambition 2474) is a great solution for companies with higher performance requirements, thanks to its feed speeds of up to 25 m/min. With the future package, precise and repeatedly accurate axis adjustments will be carried out automatically during profile trimming and continuous trimming. The solid wood package allows you to glue a lath width of up to 20 mm and the high-gloss package also includes a motor-driven top roll pressure belt and tracing shoe adjustment on the glue joint scraper.
