Interview with SCHULER Consulting

What does SCHULER Consulting do, what does that have to do with HOMAG and what does the collaboration between the two companies look like? We asked Elias Wagner, the managing director of SCHULER Consulting. Three questions, three answers.

SCHULER Consulting and HOMAG — these two names are often spoken in one breath. But what connects the two companies?

As a 100% subsidiary of HOMAG, at SCHULER Consulting we advise customers from the wood processing industry. In this process, we support them in their strategic, organizational and technological plans for the future. Our customers often decide in this phase on how they want to continue in production. We therefore work closely with the end customer and, of course, exchange information with our colleagues from HOMAG.

From a historical perspective, you could say that SCHULER Consulting is the nucleus of HOMAG. In 1956—four years before HOMAG was founded—Gerhard Schuler founded SCHULER Consulting. From this customer advisory service, he identified the technical needs of customers, which, ultimately, was the impetus for founding HOMAG. Even today, we still bring a lot of ideas and approaches from these customer discussions into development at HOMAG. In my opinion, HOMAG and SCHULER Consulting is a great combination — and not only for customers, as the collaboration is very enjoyable on both sides.

What makes the collaboration with HOMAG special?

It's obvious: the willingness to go that extra mile for the customer. In the various projects we of course encounter other technology manufacturers. But what we do together with HOMAG far exceeds everything else, and not only because of the wide and mature portfolio. Our combined readiness and joy in developing customer-specific concepts is absolutely extraordinary. Of course, everything doesn't always run smoothly. From my point of view, what's remarkable then is that in such cases, we deal with such setbacks as a group and do everything possible to set things straight again. That brings us together. All of that makes the collaboration at HOMAG something special.

The collaboration has been going hand in hand for 60 years. What do you wish for from your joint future?

These days, it's increasingly difficult to predict what the future will bring due to an ever-faster rate of change and crises that can suddenly emerge from all possible directions. Therefore, my wish would be that we can be even more robust together in the face of such developments, so that we continue to be the innovative, competent and reliable partner that our customers and employees want.
